NYC's Finest

The instruction at Atlantic Yachting NYC is what sets us apart from any sailing program in the country. Like a highly specialized private school, we select only the finest candidates from a worldwide search of lifelong, passionate sailors with experience teaching youth. In addition to their sailing skills, we try to ensure that all our counselors bring incredible, diverse, positive life experiences with them to our Upper West Side Sailing Programs. All of our instructors are ASA Certified Sailing Instructors to ensure your children are in good hands with Atlantic Yachting.

Summer 2016 Sailing Instructors NYC

chris sabbatini - PAST

Chris grew up in Annapolis, Maryland, surrounded by a sailing community in a place where the US Sailboat Show is an honorary local holiday.

For Chris, the sailing bug started when he was young, sailing with his dad out to the Channel Islands off the southern coast of California. He moved to Annapolis in middle school, certified on Lasers, and then progressed to knockabouts/J24s. He continued recreational sailing during his time at the Naval Academy and was also a competitive rower with the lightweight crew team.

We are fortunate to have Chris with Atlantic Yachting while he is finishing an MBA after 10 years as a Navy SEAL. He spends his free time running, cycling, cooking, and an occasional winter surfing trip to Long Island.

Tegan Maxey - PAST

Tegan grew up in the Bahamas on the island of Eleuthera, where her parents started The Island School. Sailing, diving, and fishing were a part of daily life in the Out Islands of the Bahamas, and her love for boating has never faded.

After graduating from The Lawrenceville School she has since taken time to sail all over the world. Tegan has crossed the Indian Ocean, crewed on Super Yachts in the Mediterranean, and cruised through the Caribbean. She brings a wealth of sailing knowledge and experience to Atlantic Yachting and an adventurous spirit perfect for our Summer Youth Sailing Programs.

NYC's most experienced sailing camp staff

Jonathan Horvath - Life

Jonathan learned to sail in a small lake at a Summer program when he was nine years-old. He fell in love with the sport, and ten years later he was running the program. The same thing happened here in NYC.

Jonathan is one of the veterans on our crew. Over the course of the last eight years he has led our Summer Sailing Camp, taught numerous sailing lessons and been both crew and captain on our private sailboat charters. Before joining Atlantic Yachting he spent ten years teaching sailing in Rhode Island, the U.S. Virgin Islands and his home state of Florida.

Off the water, Jonathan is an actor, singer, voice over artist, and host of speed dating events, and a graduate of the Brown University/Trinity Rep. Acting Conservatory.

Prior to joining us, Russell was a Senior Counselor and instructor for three years at a sleep-away Summer camp in North Carolina, teaching sailing as well as beginner to advanced kayaking.

Teaching kids to sail in Manhattan with experience

Jeremy King - Past

As one of the newest members of the Atlantic Yachting Team, Jeremy is excited to be able to share his knowledge of sailing and passion for the sea with aspiring young sailors.

Born and raised in Westchester, NY, Jeremy started his sailing career right here on the Hudson River. As a youth learned to race Sunfish, Lasers, and 420s and later went on to sail for one of the top sailing colleges in the nation.

Over the past 2 years, Jeremy has expanded his horizons sailing over 4500 nm aboard his 33' sloop, "Fernweh". He's sailed from the rocky shores of New England to the Great Bahama Bank. But his sailing journey is still only just beginning.
